Modesto families turnout to Valley Families Unite’s 'Working Families Winter Fest'

Modesto, California – On Saturday, December 16, Valley Families Unite hosted its first-ever Winter Fest that garnered overwhelming attendance. Over 100 families from Congressional District 13 attended the event and giveaway at Persuasion Brewery. The event was VFU’s introduction to the community and launch of our paid media campaign. We discussed issues that most impact working families in Congressional District 13 and highlighted ways residents can advocate for Congressman John Duarte not to raise costs for his constituents. Congressman John Duarte has continually voted against the best interest of his community, he has voted to increase the cost of utilities, groceries and housing offsetting the survival cost for working families. 

The event featured speakers, including Stanislaus County community advocate Jessica Self, Poet Eduardo Claudio, Vice-President of the Modesto Progressive Democrats Pedro Ramirez, Central Valley for Community Organizers for the Black Indigenous and People of Color Coalition (CVBIPOC) Julissa Ramirez, and Steve Allen, a community organizer.

Valley Families Unite CA-13 Organizer Alyssa Leiva shared about the event, “Valley Families Unite is overjoyed to have shared the holiday season with working families in Modesto and we are very excited to have provided the community holiday cheer as we discussed the issues that truly matter to families in the district while calling on Congressman John Duarte to put us first, by not voting to raise our cost on things like healthcare, child care, food and utilities. Our work continues and we’ll be here to remind Representative John Duarte to do better for his community.”
