Community Organizers Shine a Light on the Importance of WIC and SNAP Programs in Shutdown Rally

Valley Families Unite Calls for Congressman Ken Calvert to Take Decisive Action in Fully Funding WIC and Protecting SNAP

Corona, California - Valley Families Unite (VFU) in collaboration with concerned constituents from California's 41st district, illuminated the Corona freeways in a call for action on Thursday evening. VFU and The More Good Trouble Light Brigade led a rally urging Congressman Ken Calvert to prioritize the full funding of WIC and the protection of SNAP in government budget negotiations, as they are crucial lifelines for many working families.

The rally, held on the Magnolia Ave overpass along the 15 freeway, drew a passionate crowd of individuals committed to advocating for the needs of their community.

Attendees raised their voices and illuminated the night sky with messages of support for the programs. With the looming threat of a government shutdown, the urgency to safeguard programs like WIC and SNAP cannot be overstated.

Tami Friedrich, a rally participant stated, "WIC and SNAP are not just programs; they are lifelines for working families. These initiatives support countless families, ensuring access to nutritious food and essential support services. As a parent, I can attest to the critical role these programs play in ensuring that children have access to healthy meals and the support we need to make ends meet. We need Rep. Calvert to support these programs and our families."
