As Medicare Open Enrollments Ends, Valley Families Unite Urges Congressional Action to Protect These Programs for Californians
California, December 7, 2023 – Today, marks the deadline for Medicare open enrollment, a federal health insurance program that millions of Americans rely on. Nearly 6.5 million Californians count on Medicare for healthcare coverage they've earned through lifelong contributions. However, recent votes by Congressmen John Duarte (CA-13) and Ken Calvert (CA-41) threaten the stability and accessibility of this vital program.
The Inflation Reduction Act promises relief to Medicare recipients, capping prescription drug costs and aiding low-income seniors. But Congressional Republicans including Rep. Calvert, who voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, have proposed cuts that jeopardize Medicare access, endangering healthcare security for constituents.
Valley Families Unite coalition member and Courage California Executive Director Irene Kao comments:
“Ahead of the January 19th government funding deadline, Valley Families Unite urges Congressman John Duarte and Ken Calvert to vote against any legislation that would harm Medicare access and instead prioritize the well-being of their constituents. This moment demands action to protect the healthcare security of our seniors and vulnerable individuals. Reps. Duarte and Calvert have the opportunity to stand up for working families by rejecting measures that undermine Medicare and supporting initiatives that protect this essential program.”
