Valley Families Unite Holds Congressman John Duarte Accountable to the People, not Profit for Oil and Gas Companies

Merced, CA – As families prepare to drive for summer travel, Valley Families Unite calls on Congressman John Duarte to stop corporate price gouging on gas that makes it harder for Californians to keep up with travel costs. Duarte has voted to make it harder to lower gas prices in his support of the H.R. 21 bill. This, along with his vote to support cuts in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) included in the Farm Bill, reveals where his priorities stand, with corporations solely invested in accumulating profit at the expense of the people and their quality of living. The state of California has taken steps to hold oil and gas companies accountable at this time. Now, Valley Families Unite asks Congressional Representative Duarte to do the same.

Irene Kao, Executive Director of Courage California and Valley Families Unite issued the following statement, "Congressman John Duarte's voting record shows a clear pattern of prioritizing the interests of wealthy corporations over working families. He’s supporting H.R. 21, a bill that would make it harder to lower gas prices, directly impacting everyday Americans at the pump. Additionally, he voted to give $6 billion in tax breaks to oil companies, revealing where his true loyalties lie. Now, with the Farm Bill, he's putting SNAP benefits for working families at risk, threatening the food security of countless individuals. It's evident that Rep. Duarte is more focused on serving wealthy donors than addressing the needs of his constituents. We’re calling on the congressman to stop voting to raise the cost of gas for Central Valley families.”
