Uniting IE Families for a Brighter Future

October 18, 2023 – By Kisha Collier, Program Director, IE United

Valley Families Unite's launch event marked the beginning of an exciting mission to champion CA-41 residents. The event garnered a great turnout as organizers met with over 50 enthusiastic families. The event showcased unity and civic engagement at Promenade Park in Corona. Festive giveaways were accompanied by valuable insights into how our elected representatives, particularly Congressman Ken Calvert, can better serve the community.

Valley Families Unite, represented by its dedicated organizers, expressed their enthusiasm about connecting with Corona's vibrant and diverse community. As Marvin Andrade, a VFU organizer stated,

“It was truly refreshing to not only see the children partake in the pumpkin craft activity but I looked over and there was an entire family at the table creating crafts! These type of events are important and necessary to civically engage our communities.”

The event wasn't just about entertainment; it provided essential education and resources on topics such as education, health, housing, public safety, harm reduction, transitional housing, civic engagement, and employment training. With community partners like IE United present, the collaborative spirit was palpable.

Valley Families Unite aspires to be a shining beacon of hope for families, and this event served as the catalyst, inspiring families to assert their desires and needs to their elected representatives. Over 50 families from the Inland Empire engaged in games, gathered information, and shared their personal stories, all in the pursuit of a brighter future where the voices of CA-41 residents are truly heard. The gathering offered a unique opportunity for residents to engage in casual conversations about the issues most relevant to working families. The distribution of 100 Halloween tote bags was a resounding success, ensuring that every member of the family felt involved and connected.

Valley Families Unite’s commitment to fostering a stronger, more informed and engaged community is in full action. As a government shutdown looms, our efforts to bridge the gap between residents and elected representatives are more crucial than ever, just as important as holding Representative Calvert accountable to ensure he prioritizes the concerns of working families in his district. Valley Families Unite's vision and energy represent a hopeful path towards a more connected and empowered community.
