Valley Families Unite Commemorates AAPI Heritage Month with Central Valley Events

By Alyssa Leiva, CA-13 Organizer

In May, Valley Families Unite proudly celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month with two vibrant community events in the Central Valley. These events paid homage to AAPI heritage and also helped shed light on the rising food costs and food insecurity prevalent in the Valley.

At Kommunity Hub’s annual Ube & Matcha Festival, we joined attendees in supporting emerging AAPI food and retail business within the San Joaquin County region and heard more about the challenges of rising food prices affecting families across the Valley. The Valley Families Unite team was joined by our community partners to call on local members of Congress to do more to address food insecurity and lower food costs, including rejecting cuts to SNAP in the House Committee on Agriculture’s 2024 Farm Bill.
