Valley Families Unite Celebrates IRS Success in Tax Enforcement Against Wealthy Tax Evaders

The Organization Calls on Rep. Calvert and Duarte to Support These Efforts Which Yielded $1 Billion in Tax Revenue

Merced, California – Today the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced a significant breakthrough in efforts to ensure tax compliance among high income earning individuals.

The tax enforcement entailed a successful collection of over $1 billion from millionaires who previously evaded paying their fair share of taxes in the past. This is a notable achievement in upholding tax regulations for the wealthy as a result of the Inflation Reduction Act, contrasting with former attempts to divert focus and protect wealthy and corporate tax cheats.

Both Reps. Ken Calvert (CA-41) and John Duarte (CA-13) voted for H.R.23 and for several other pieces of legislation that would have cut the very funding making this week’s victory possible. Further, Rep. Calvert voted against the Inflation Reduction Act that initially provided this funding to go after wealthy and corporate tax cheats.

Irene Kao, Executive Director of Courage California and Valley Families Unite issued the following statement, “In light of this news, it is crucial that we continue to prioritize policies that support adequate and full funding for IRS enforcement activities that create a fair tax environment for low and middle income families. Unfortunately, extreme Republicans such as Congressmen Ken Calvert and John Duarte have opposed such funding measures in the past, jeopardizing the ability to stop tax evasion by wealthy individuals and corporations. Working Californians who pay their taxes deserve better, and it starts with holding their representative accountable for an equitable tax system that makes vital programs and services possible. We urge our representatives to do their part in supporting the IRS, instead of actively attempting to cut its funding and stop this tax enforcement effort.”
