Advocates Provide Free Groceries While Urging Congressman Ken Calvert to Reject the Farm Bill Risking SNAP Cuts for Families in Need
Corona, California – On Sunday, August 25th, Valley Families Unite, in partnership with local food relief organization Feeding America, hosted a food distribution drive at the Circle City Center in Corona. The event addressed the growing issue of food insecurity in Riverside County while also advocating for the protection of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits that over 71,000 families in CA-41 rely on, by urging Congressman Ken Calvert to reject cuts to SNAP in this year’s Farm Bill.

Today's event was not just about providing immediate relief; it was about mobilizing our community to protect the future of SNAP for thousands of families in Riverside County. We urge Congressman Calvert to listen to the voices of his constituents and reject any legislation that threatens our access to essential food assistance."

Over 40 attendees received boxes of free groceries and were encouraged to join the effort urging Congressman Ken Calvert to oppose the Farm Bill, which proposes a $30 billion cut to SNAP over the next ten years. The food drive also included an informational handout in each grocery box offering accessible and local food assistance resources.
Anabel Rivas, a participant and Corona resident: "With food prices still high and rent slowly increasing, potential SNAP cuts are detrimental to me and my community. I want Congressman Calvert to know that he has the power to stop what could be the largest cut to SNAP food benefits in nearly 30 years!"
